Googly girl and chickmunks.

chick i drew at one of the panels at OIAF last weekend.
also some chipmunks i drew at the country club this summah. they were the only friends i had on those long lonely days in the halfway house across the golfcourse.

also, i used to call them "chickmunks" when i was tiny.

Workin on some stuff for my animation project

Johnny was a chemist’s son
His head stuffed full of brains
While Johnny’s thoughts were rocket ships,
Other kids’ thoughts were trains

Johnny’s father noticed Johnny
Seldom saw the light of day
So Johnny’s father pushed pale Johnny
Out into the sun to play.

Johnny couldn’t swing a bat
Johnny couldn’t catch a ball
Science was his life-long love
His home, the lecture hall

“Outside is too unpredictable,
I need some time to think.
Besides, the sun is parching me,
And I think I need a drink!”

Johnny was a chemist’s son
But Johnny is no more
What Johnny thought was H2O
Was H2SO4

I found the last stanza as a short poem somewhere online and thought that this would make a great short film. My dad and I elaborated on it and took turns writing the extra stanzas in order to create a conflict for the story.

so here are the characters!
Johnny is fully drawn in orthographic views. His father is only partly seen throughout the film so i only designed his hands and feet.

Storyboards are coming sooooon.

REALLY LATE PIG GUY

This is the assignment that i never finished for the zodiac assignment. I was given the pig, and i had to portray a human and animal version of the pig, while making one good and one bad.

The dude Charlie Gordon is a 1940s Jazz club owner who is basically a big prick. He stiffs his employees their correct pay, he treats women like crap and is basically a huge sleaze ball. The little pig, Tuffy, is his other half, the good half, that rights his wrongs like sneaking around silently swiping money from the till to quietly give employees their correct pay. He also does other good deeds around the club without asking anything in return. The pig cleans up Charlie's messes. Basically Tuffy is the epitome of the good characteristics that entails the pig in the chinese zodiac. He is humble, helpful, caring and quiet.

I was also supposed to do silhouettes for this assignment, which i did, but i didn't end up using any for the pig's design:

OK ALL YALL, NEWS

you guys, our transcendental meditation class gets to speak directly with david fucking lynch in two weeks from today.

um. what.

the david lynch foundation is the reason we have the class in the first place, since they gave CCS a grant to study this form of meditation (which has been scientifically researched over and over) and the foundation also funded our class to learn this ancient technique without paying (usually the training and ceremony cost like $800-$1000), which is also all thanks to chelsea richer who came up with the idea to start the class since she chose to do her senior film on TM.

now being at CCS, it's hard to care about a liberal arts class since studios are so demanding and obviously a higher priority, but this class reminds me week after week how amazing and important this subject and the people i'm in the class with actually are. the technique has really changed how i feel mentally and physically, by a surprisingly large amount, and the subjects we discuss in class are all about finding the self and what it takes to get there. so many different perspectives are discussed in detail and it's just an extremely enlightening three hours that i am thankful for every week.

i feel like barfing because i'm so excited. what did i do to have this crazy privilege to meet a film-god?

UPDATE

look. das him.

Fairy

"The female half-Fairy. Her wardrobe is fashionable. She appears human - yet her shadow is always that of her non-human parent's species."

Project based on the style of Secret of the Kells, with emotion chart to go with it.

I wanted her to have a woodsy feel to her since The Secret of the Kells has a style thats super earthy, and a plot that takes place mostly in the wilderness.

Her "non-human" parent is that of a Deer, which is reflected in her shadow. I'm planning on going back and adding texture to her since the secret of the kells does such a good job in incorporating so much texture in their shots.

hurr are some reference photos:

AIR HUMPIN

did a dance cycle, unfortunately it was a little late since i restarted it, and then had a rough week. but i am so much happier with it.

do you ever have those ideas that just absolutely come straight out of nowhere but are just the best ones you've ever had? and you get really excited? i would count this as one of them but lately there has just been so many that i've wondered what supernatural power implanted them in my head and why. but i guess questioning it would only get me off track, i'm too excited to elaborate on these ideas to care.

Zulu Astronaut in 3 Styles

first one- fairly oddparents style. i don't even like this show, but i couldn't get the idea out of my head.

second one- jamie hewlett style (but not colored the same way, obviously)

third one- no specific style, just drew it.

So this guy, this Zulu Astronaut, is sent to other planets to spread the culture of his people. The people of Earth are just way too stubborn in their ways and don't easily accept new ways of thinking, so the hope of his tribe was that the inhabitants of other planets would be more open minded in learning the ways of the Zulu people.
